Dr. Levy

My training in graduate school was mostly in psychodynamic-psychoanalystic therapy.
(Basically, Freudian and Object Relations and loads of Kohut and Kernberg and Ferenszci.) Basically, it is the idea that most of what goes on in our brains is unconscious, and emotional, and that therapy should focus on making the unconscious conscious, and that relationships in the present reflect repetitions of past relationships. That is, we repeat past mistakes until we figure it out.

Since grad school, and in large part due to experience doing therapy, my theoretical perspective has shifted to being more of a blend of Rogerian and REBT therapy. That is, humanistic and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy approaches. That might seem contradictory, but really they are all compatible tools within the same toolbox.

My practice has also expanded to working with people in early recovery from addiction to alcohol and drugs.
